Napoli 3-0 Frankfurt: Goal and Highlights | Champions League 22/23

Napoli has lost just one home game by a three-goal margin since 2013, but a commanding 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg places Luciano Spalletti’s team firmly in the driver’s seat going into the return match. With no team defeating them at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in this tournament since 2017, Spalletti stated that “we want to reach the stars” in what could be a historic season. (W8, D3).

In the middle of a four-game losing streak (D2, L2), Frankfurt travels on one of the toughest schedules in Europe. The Eagles’ most recent defeat came in a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Stuttgart. Oliver Glasner, the team’s coach, thinks his team is “capable of extraordinary achievements,” and their successful record against Italian teams on the continental level certainly indicates they could pull another rabbit out of the hat. (W5, D2, L3).

Two of the German team’s three group stage wins came on the road, but given that they have the fewest goals scored (GF: 7) of any remaining teams, coming back from a two-goal deficit seems unlikely. The fact that Frankfurt hasn’t won on the road since November (D4, L2) gives Glasner’s team a tremendous uphill battle in Naples.
